Introduction to Ayurveda with Todd Caldecott, Dip ClH, RH(AHG)
10am – 4pm, July 24 and 25th, 2010
Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences
303 Vernon Street, Nelson, B.C.

In the beginning there is only silence. From this silence emanates the whole of creation, a vibration called Love that binds one thing to another, weaving the tapestry of the universe. Within the ordering of this emanation are simple, timeless laws, that show us how to live, how to love, and how to return to the silence. While these laws resonate within our very being they are obscured by conditioning, by our thoughts and emotions, and we find ourselves lost and adrift in the vastness of eternal ignorance.

The ancient sages understood this problem and so revealed the ‘Divine Science of Living’, or Ayurveda, that allows us to understand, observe and respect these natural laws. Ayurveda translates into English as the “Science of Life” and is considered by many to be the oldest healing science in the world, a 4000 year old living tradition that focuses on the
connection between the body and the mind.

Allied with the practice of yoga, Ayurveda maintains a wealth of measures to maintain health, prevent disease and treat illness. With a strong focus on restoring balance, Ayurveda seeks to integrate the practitioner more
closely with the healing power of nature.

Come join this introductory weekend workshop, as Todd Caldecott guides you through the theory and practice of Ayurvedic medicine. Familiar for his sharp wit and detailed insight, Todd will personally give you the tools you need to stay happy and healthy using the tools of Ayurveda.

Course contents include:
• Introduction and history
• Tridosha theory
• Prakriti (constitution)
• Dinacharya (daily living)
• Rtucharya (seasonal living)
• Dravyaguna (knowledge of substance)
• Annasvarupa (knowledge of food)

Tuition is $175 for 10 hours of training.

To register contact Todd at todd@toddcaldecott.com or by telephone at (1)778.896.8894

Todd Caldecott is a Medical Herbalist and practitioner of Ayurveda, the former clinical director of Wild Rose College and a Registered Professional Herbalist with the American Herbalists Guild. In practice for over 14 years, Todd has lectured and practiced all over the world, and is author of the textbook “Ayurveda: The Divine Science of Life.

We are pleased to announce that the student clinic space at the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences will be open for the summer and run as a Community Acupuncture Clinic offering sliding scale acupuncture treatments to the community of Nelson.

Four of our talented ACOS graduates Tanya Allen, Zea Friesen, Ryan Gallant and Jill Zinszer, will offer a community acupuncture clinic for 12 weeks this summer. All these practitioners are licensed acupuncturists with the CTCMA of BC.

‘Community Acupuncture’ is a style of clinic set up where clients are needled in a group setting while relaxing in reclining chairs. Clients remain fully clothed and are needled on distal points – mainly points on the arms and legs, away from the core of the body. This group setting allows for less expensive treatments in a comfortable, social setting. There will also be several rooms available for individual, private treatments.

There are many successful community acupuncture style clinics operating around the world and these alumni are excited to try a pilot project of community acupuncture here in the Kootenays.

The Community Acupuncture Clinic at ACOS will be open Monday thru Thursday, from 12-6pm and rates will be offered on a sliding scale of $20-$40 per treatment.

MSP coverage will be available for these treatments in many cases.

The Community Acupuncture Clinic at ACOS is slated to open Tuesday, June 1st and run through until Thursday, August 12th. If you have any questions or wish to make an appointment please call 250-354-1984.

Best wishes for a healthy and happy summer!

Come one, come all, to the 2010 Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences graduation ceremony!

The Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences will celebrate the convocation of its eleventh graduating class on Saturday, April 24th, 2010. A public ceremony will be held in recognition of the achievements of our graduating students who have successfully completed intense 3, 4 and 5 year programs in traditional Chinese medicine.

The ceremony will be held in the Hume Room of the Hume Hotel, 422 Vernon Street, at 3:00pm on that day.

This graduation ceremony is also a time for celebration and reflection on the dedication and commitment of the Academy’s faculty and staff. Over the last decade the Academy has elevated the teaching of traditional Chinese medicine and has made notable contribution to education in Canada. This graduation ceremony is also a time to look to the future and to the significant contribution today’s graduates will make, both to the profession of Chinese medicine and to the patients they treat.

The number of Canadians who have come to value and appreciate traditional Chinese medicine and its role in the treatment of disease and preservation of health continues to grow. The future of our profession is in the hands of the newly graduated.

On Saturday, April 24th, 2010 we salute the graduates and wish all of them a successful journey on the path they have chosen.

Please join us for this celebration if you are able.
