Mary DeVan, M.A., Instructor
Mary received her Masters of Arts degree from UBC in 1989, and her Masters in Counseling from Gonzaga University in 2008. Currently also working as a therapist in private practice and a clinical supervisor of a multi-service agency, Mary has 20 years experience working with people healing from trauma. Mary has facilitated several groups and presented at conferences and numerous workshops both locally and in Vancouver. She has experience with various therapeutic modalities and is a Somatic Experiencing practitioner.

 

 

Jennifer Dunn, R.TCMP, Instructor

Jennifer received her diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in 2004. Since, she has been practicing in Nelson at her home clinic, at the ACOS outpatient clinic, performing home visits and at Kootenay Lake hospital. With a background in therapeutic massage, clinical aromatherapy, youth counseling, and nutritional health and cooking, Jennifer feels that Chinese Medicine is a wonderful way of pulling all of these healing modalities together, and combining treatments as a way of looking at and treating the whole patient. She started teaching at the Academy in 2005, and has become quite dedicated to the field of education. She is continuing education in the fields of Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Psychology, and Spiritual Healing. She also assists in the organization of promoting and producing continuing education opportunities in the arena of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Kootenay region.

Paul Gaucher, R.TCM.P, Instructor


Paul is a fully certified TCM Practitioner (R.TCM.P), and he earned a diploma in the Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine program at ACOS in Nelson. At a young age, Paul had a great fascination with nature, playing in the woods for long hours as a boy. Then later in his teen years he developed an interest in alternative medicine. It was a natural progression that he would combine these experiences and pursue a career in TCM, with its basic principles rooted in the cycles of the seasons and in the observation of natural phenomena. Paul‘s innate curiosity of life has moved him to travel extensively through Egypt, Turkey, Greece, India, and Nepal. He continues to study many different world philosophies that compliment his knowledge as an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been in practice for at least 2,500 years and Paul’s vision is to bridge these ancient teachings with the health challenges of the present . He is genuinely motivated to help bring people to their full potential and has a knack for explaining difficult concepts to others. He practices at Back in Motion integrated health, here in Nelson.

Jennifer Gawne, ACOS Administrator, R.TCM.H, Dip. (TCM), Instructor

Jennifer is a proud ACOS alumnus and pleased to be the Administrator of the Academy. Jennifer enjoys wearing many hats around the school, overseeing the administration of the Academy, running the Campus Bookstore and Herbal Dispensary and teaching. Jennifer’s desire to provide service to others has been deepened by her study and practice of Chinese Medicine. A favorite aspect of Jennifer’s work is the time spent with students who are observing in the herbal dispensary.Jennifer is dedicated to fostering a positive and respectful learning environment at the Academy (and having a bit of fun too!).

 

Nina-Lynn Hamilton, B.Sc., CLSp (MB), Instructor
Nina is a new instructor at the Academy in the Western Medicine department. Nina received her B.Sc. from the University of Calgary in cellular, molecular and microbial biology in 1997, and received her post-graduate diploma in Molecular Diagnostics from the University of Connecticut in 1999.

Nina worked for six years with Calgary Laboratory Services as a Laboratory Scientist in the Molecular Microbiology Department in the area of Research and Development. In 2006 Nina and her family moved to the Kootenays to enjoy the lifestyle and slower pace, but quickly took on a new challenge as a Coroner’s agent here in Nelson. Nina is excited to meet and work with the staff and students of ACOS during the next year and she wanted to be sure and add … P.S. Microbiology is interesting!

 

Dr. Juan Huang, B.Sc. (TCM), M.D. (China), Ph.D.,  Dr. TCM,  Instructor

Juan Huang received her PH.D. in internal medicine of TCM at Beijing University of TCM and Pharmacology, Beijing, China. Dr. Huang has been involved in several research projects both experimental and clinical at the municipal and national level in China. She has 13 years of clinical experience practicing both at Guixi municipal Hospital( Jiangxi province, China ) and Dongzhimen Hospital which is the affiliated hospital of Beijing University of TCM and Pharmacology (Beijing, China). Since 2004, she has been practicing Academy of Classical Oriental Science Outpatient Clinic. With 21 years clinical experience, Dr. Huang has successfully treated many difficult diseases in internal medicine, gynecology and male disease, such as arrhythmia , coronary heart disease, immune disease,digestive disease, respiratory disease, menstrual disorders, menopause,depression and male sterility etc.with acupuncture and herbal medicine in both China and Canada. Dr. Huang was also a highly esteemed lecture at the Capital Medical University (Beijing)and has numerous articles published in academic Chinese medicine journals. She has been teaching a broad range of courses from Diagnosis , Herbology, Formula, internal medicine, gynecology and Pediatric etc. at Academy of Classical Oriental Science as a principle instructor since 2004.

 

Regula Langenegger, Registrar

Born and raised in Switzerland, Regula’s professional background has been in administration for over 14 years. Her personal interest in alternative health medicine and her understanding of what it means to be a post-secondary student makes her the perfect fit for the position of Registrar. Always interested in expanding her knowledge and education, Regula has studied Swiss Law at University of Fribourg and as well as Ayurvedic massage and has taught yoga and breathing techniques. Regula has traveled all over the world and is fluent in 3 languages. Regula’s calm and friendly communication style and her commitment to first-class education is a tremendous benefit to the Academy and its students.

 

Dr. Jeff Lloyd, Chiropractor, Instructor

Jeff is a registered chiropractor in the province of British Columbia with a private practice in Nelson, where he operates a multidisciplinary health care clinic. In addition to his core training at Chiropractic college he has taken specialized training in soft tissue treatment, orthotic therapy and spinal rehabilitation.

 

 

 

Joanne Sinclaire, R.TCMP, Instructor

With a background in Fine Arts, Environmental Studies and intensive production and marketing of medicinal herbs , Joanne began her training at the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in 1997 and completed her degree with a practicum at the Japanese Chinese Friendship Hospital in Beijing, China in 2001. She worked for one year in the Academy dispensary and began teaching one course in 2003. Eight years later, Joanne teaches a broad range of courses from Acupoints, Needling, Case Studies, Fundamentals and Therapeutics .  One of her real passions is Chinese herbs and in 2006 she created ACOS’s first introductory online herbal course and recently a unique program of summer herb courses aimed at utilizing North American and European herbs according to Chinese herbal principles. In addition, she has worked in her own private practice for over ten years and frequently acts in a supervisory capacity in Student Clinic.

Kevin Wallbridge, B.A., Instructor
Kevin earned his degree in Medical Anthropology and Asian Studies. He is a highly experienced teacher of the esoteric concepts of the body and health that are found in Chinese physical culture. From a year-long residency in China, Kevin has first hand experience of the People’s Republic. He was trained as a cross-cultural facilitator by the founder of the Canadian Association of Applied Anthropologists. He offers his twelve years of experience in the Asian martial arts to the benefit of the students and the community alike. Kevin is bilingual in English and Mandarin.
