The unspoiled natural environment of Nelson, BC, Canada, is the perfect place to investigate the Daoist roots of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.
The Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences (ACOS) is a fully-accredited TCM and acupuncture school, founded in 1996. At present, we offer the following programs:
- NEW! 2017 Winter Intake: Start your 1st Year of Education in both Winter & Fall
- 3 year TCM Herbalist Program
- 3 year Acupuncturist Program
- 4 and 5 year Traditional Chinese Medicine Program (Practitioner & Doctor)
- Distance Education Course in Chinese herbal medicine
The programs at our school are comprehensive and rigorous, challenging students to the highest standards of practice. The beauty of our school setting combined with world-class instructors, an on-site acupuncture clinic and many campus amenities make the Academy an exceptional school for study of acupuncture and other Chinese medical arts.
ACOS re-integrates Traditional Chinese Medicine as taught in the People’s Republic with a pre-cultural revolution, 400 year-old family tradition. The programs at our school include the acquisition of the Chinese language, which deepens the ability for students to understand and research Chinese medicine in its original world view. Students tell us that the language component is one of the things that sets the Academy apart from other acupuncture schools when making their decision.
All components of Chinese medicine are covered through our programs, including:
- Tui Na (massage)
- Taiji Quan
- Mental-Emotional Therapy and Counseling
A Western Medicine component also ensures capable communication with other health care professionals and meets the present requirements for licensing.
What our students say about our school:
“…the emphasis on the Classics has completed my foundation and diagnosis in the practice of TCM. I feel that we stand above and beyond what is offered elsewhere. Long Live the Academy!” -Lukas Kaczmarski, Tennessee
“…the extra information on herbs and herbal formulas gave me more confidence in the diagnosing and treatment of future patients…” -Deenna Haubold, Saskatchewan
” The fifth year of Chinese medicine school gave me another layer and understanding of Chinese medicine that I couldn’t have picked up on my own. Because the theories are very complex I really needed to have my teacher and classmates there to converse with, and I got a lot out of those dialogues…” -Allen Fradsham, Ottawa
” I am most grateful for my superb training at ACOS. The depth and breath of the curriculum is vast and all encompassing. I found the opportunity to learn to read and write Chinese characters was a powerful way to learn the deeper meaning and usage of the acupuncture points. Thank you!” -Elizabeth, Nelson, BC
