3-year TCM Herbalist Program
3-year Acupuncturist Program
4 and 5 year Traditional Chinese Medicine Program (Practitioner & Doctor)

ACOS re-integrates TCM as taught in the People's Republic with a pre-cultural revolution, 400 year-old family tradition. Our programs include the acquisition of the Chinese language, which deepens the ability for students to understand and research TCM in its original world view. All components of TCM are covered through our programs, including

A Western Medicine component also ensures capable communication with other health care professionals and meets the present requirements for licensing.

Did you know that the British Columbia Medical Services Plan has added Acupuncture as a Supplementary Benefit?

Premium assistance benefits are available to eligible B.C. residents with a combined family income of $28,000 or less. MSP reimburses premium assistance recipients $23 for each supplementary benefit visit, to a combined maximum of 10 visits in each calendar year. Patients are covered for acupuncture treatments for a diagnosed condition through visits with practitioners registered by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA). Successful re-accreditation by PCTIA!

The Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences proudly announces its re-accreditation recently granted by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA). The Academy was initially accredited in the year 2000; at that time receiving unconditional accreditation. Again in 2008, the Academy achieved full unconditional accreditation for a second time, proving its ability to operate long term as a first-class institution. This recent accreditation visit was particularly important since it involved a team member from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC (CTCMA) thereby intensifying the accreditation process.

National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) (updated 7/26/2007) Recently, the Academy has been added to the NCCAOM website in the list of "Institutions Evaluated by AACRAO (American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers)", which means that our graduates have been evaluated as having the necessary educational prerequisites to write the NCCAOM examination allowing them to practise in the USA. Since 2004, graduates of the Academy have successfully written and passed the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) licencing exams.

New Pre-TCM Program at Selkirk College - The Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences and Selkirk Community College have partnered to create a new Associate of Arts Degree - Entry to Traditional Chinese Medicine. This 2-year degree will provide prospective TCM and holistic health students with the solid background in biology, chemistry, psychology and the humanities relevant to further studies in TCM. This route enables students [and their families] to come and enjoy living in the West Kootenay area even sooner!
